Guy Pearce, Air Supply and Luc Longley were honored on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the ninth annual G'Day USA Los Angeles Black Tie Gala. Presenters included Kate Winslet, Priscilla Presley and Phil Jackson.
As a lead sponsor of the gala, Qantas Airways joined fellow and ¡®honorary¡¯ Aussies in celebrating all things Australia, including John Travolta and Qantas¡¯ newest Ambassador, Miranda Kerr.
Emmy-winning actor Guy Pearce was recognized with the Excellence in Film & Television Award. The acclaimed international actor recently appeared in Mildred Pierce, The Kings Speech and The Hurt Locker. Kate Winslet presented the award to her Mildred Pierce co-star, Pearce.
Multi-platinum musical duo Air Supply received the Excellence in Music Award.? The soft-rock duo have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, including eight ¡®Top Ten¡¯ hits in the United States, including ¡°All Out Love¡± and ¡°Making Love Out of Nothing at All.¡±? Priscilla Presley, actress and businesswoman, presented the award.
NBA Basketball player Luc Longley (Chicago Bulls) received the Excellence in Sport Award. Luc Longley was the first Australian to play in the NBA, winning three championships with the Chicago Bulls. Legendary basketball coach Phil Jackson (LA Lakers and Chicago Bulls) presented the award to Longley.
Young Australian singing sensations Cody Simpson and Jack Vidgen (winner of Australia¡¯s Got Talent) joined Air Supply and the Qantas Choir as entertainment for the night. Australian cuisine was prepared by Melbourne based celebrity chef, Guy Grossi.
