The three largest Cunard ships ever built will arrive in the early morning of 5 June sailing single file up the Solent before Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth tie up at berth and Queen Mary 2 turns in the upper swinging ground to pass each vessel with crew lining the foredeck of all three while the ship’s whistles sound. “Cunard is delighted to be able to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in a way that will give everyone, especially our passengers, a truly remarkable day that they will feel proud to talk about for years to come, taking part in history and marking the sixty glorious years of Her Majesty’s reign in a fitting, memorable ad spectacular way,” Cunard president and managing director Peter Shanks said. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the only person in history to have attended the naming of all three Queen Elizabeths commencing in 1938. Special events will take place throughout the day with the celebrations culminating in a fireworks spectacular, complete with special effects, before the Queen Mary 2 leads all three ships single file down the Solent en route to their ‘Diamond Jubilee’ voyages. |
